2017 Educator Externship Experience

  • Region 14 Education Service Center
  • E3 Summit Educator Professional Development Workshop
  • Regional Company Visits & Tours (i.e. list of employers)
  • Behind the scenes tours & discussions with industry experts

ELIGIBILITY: The E3 Educator Externship Experience is intended for educators who are currently teaching students in grades 4th through 12th in a public school setting and who plan on returning to the classroom for the 2017 through 2018 school year. Individuals eligible to participate will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, provided space is available. 

APPLICATION DEADLINE: WED. MAY 31, 2017 (Applicants will be notified of acceptance no later than Wed. June 7, 2017.) 

Educator Externship Experience Overview

The E3 Educator Externship Experience is a collaborative initiative, of the West Central Texas Workforce Development Board, West Texas Energy Consortium, Region 14 Education Service Center, business and community representatives whose goal is to build a seamless partnership to enhance employee, educator and community activities. Team West Texas promotes outreach in science, technology, engineering and math education to help increase interest and awareness in technical careers.

The intent of summer externships is to provide opportunities for educators to participate for a one-week period in business and/or industry to form connections between educational curriculum and business and industry skills needed for a 21st century knowledge-based economy.

The externship is a chance to use a "business classroom" to connect education skills with what is happening in the workplace and to clarify for teachers the vast number of options available to students. Teachers involved in an externship get the chance to practice or observe current technology, view the myriad possibilities within a diverse range of career fields, and learn what new skills, knowledge, and further education are necessary for the careers in the academic areas in which they teach.
